Opportunity Finder
Scan your Search Console data for growth ideas: striking distance keywords, low-CTR pages, snippet candidates and more.
3 min read Updated
What is it?
The Opportunity Finder scans your Google Search Console queries and pages for growth ideas. Its start screen says Find what's available — not just what broke. Where the Anomaly Wizard finds problems, the Opportunity Finder finds chances to grow.
Why use it?
- To get a short list of keywords and pages that can win more clicks.
- To see an estimate of the impact for each idea.
- To check the daily numbers behind each idea.
Before you start
Connect Search Console. Without it you see Connect Search Console to use the Opportunity Finder — it scans Search Console queries and pages.
How to use it
Open the tab
In Advanced Analytics, click Opportunity Finder.
Pick your dates
Choose a range in the date picker.
Run the scan
Click Find Opportunities. You see Scanning Search Console for opportunities…
Review the cards
Each card shows an opportunity and an estimated-impact line.
Check the data
Click View daily data on a card to see the numbers day by day.
Understanding the screen
Checks
| Check | What it looks for |
|---|---|
| Striking Distance Keywords | Queries ranking just below page one. See striking distance. |
| Low-CTR Rewrite Candidates | Results with a weak CTR, where a new title or description may help |
| Featured Snippet Candidates | Queries that may win a featured snippet (a highlighted answer at the top of Google) |
| Visibility Without Clicks | Results that are shown often but get few clicks |
| Page Striking Distance | Pages ranking just below page one |
Prism also says what is not covered: Not covered yet: keyword cannibalization and verified SERP-feature detection — both need data this project doesn't currently ingest. For cannibalization, see Keywords Breakdown.
Results
The top of the results shows rows analyzed and opportunities found. Below are the opportunity cards, each with an estimated-impact line.
View daily data
View daily data opens two tables, Current period and Previous period, with Date, Clicks, Impressions, CTR and Position.
Inside you may see Loading daily data…, Failed to load daily data. or No rows for this period.
Example
For example, the scan shows a Striking Distance Keywords card for "local seo checklist" at position 13. Click View daily data and check that the position is steady over the period. Then add a section to the page that answers that query, and link to it from related pages.
Tips
- Use a longer range, such as Last 90 days, so more queries meet the volume thresholds.
- Start with Low-CTR Rewrite Candidates. A better title is a quick change.
- Check the same pages in Category Breakdown to see their category.
Common issues
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| No opportunities found for this range — Either GSC isn't connected, or nothing in this data met the volume thresholds this scan uses. | Connect Search Console, or pick a longer range. |
| Scan failed — Something went wrong finding opportunities. | Click Try again. |
| Failed to load daily data. | Close the table and click View daily data again. |
Frequently asked questions
Does the Opportunity Finder need Google Analytics?
No. It scans Search Console queries and pages, so it needs Search Console only.
Does it check keyword cannibalization?
Not yet. Prism says on screen that cannibalization and verified SERP-feature detection are not covered yet. Use Keywords Breakdown for cannibalization.
Why did the scan find nothing?
Either Search Console isn't connected, or nothing in your data met the volume thresholds the scan uses. Try a longer date range.
